Florida Vacation Spots

Florida Vacation Spots

Florida vacation spots are all over the Sunshine State, and if you're looking for ideas for a great Florida vacation, I've got lots for your reading pleasure. In these pages, you'l lfind all kinds of destination treasures that await you.

You'll learn about the Florida you knew was here somewhere. From the fantabulous beaches (including some of the best in the world) to awesome outdoors activities to wonderful attractions like Disney World. They're all here, along with some places you might not have even known existed.

Think of this as a guide to Florida, brought to you by a native (which would of course be me). I've lived here all my life, so I've got plenty to share with you.

So where are these great Florida vacation spots...and what are they? It doesn't matter if you live here or are just visiting -- there's something here for pretty much everyone, no matter how long or short your trip.

Florida Vacation Ideas

Below are some ideas to get you started on your Florida vacation plans. If there is something you don't see, check the menu to the right or do a search (the search box is just above the menu). All that being said...let's get started.

Beaches and More BeachesFlorida Vacation Spots Sanibel

Find out about the best beaches in Florida. From the boardwalk at Daytona Beach, to the quiet and beautiful Captiva, you're bound to find the best beaches for you. For example, did you know that the sand and sea on the Atlantic and the Gulf coasts are very different? It's true! And something even more interesting -- there are a group of Floridian islands that have almost no natural beaches, because of what lies just offshore...read all about it!

You'll also see plenty of pictures, from Destin down to the Key West beaches, and back up the coast to New Smyrna Beach -- and everywhere in between! You'll want to check out these stretches of sand and sea before you plan your next vacation.

And when you want to take a break from the tropical sands, read on for some other ideas.

Attractions Around the State

Yes, we're probably the vacation (i.e. attraction) capital of the world. There's more than just the usual suspects, though, and you might be surprised at what you find roaming around the state. For example...

  • Walt Disney World -- visit with the world's most famous mouse.  And as you will see, there is more to Disney than you might have imagined (hidden Mickeys, anyone?). You'll get information on Disney park tickets, the theme parks themselves, resorts and more. (I used to work at Disney World, so I've got some behind the scenes tips for you.)

  • We can't forget the Universal Studios theme park, with its wonderful rides and shows. (And don't forget, Universal is split into two parks; the other is Islands of Adventure.)

  • Florida's "lost" attractions deserve a place in the sun (so to speak). Many of these never seem to make it into the guide books. From Key West to Pensacola, there are loads of things to see and do on your vacation. And hey, Florida residents -- there might be some of these "lost attractions" in your own backyard!

Florida Vacation Spots for Families

Vacation Spots in FloridaAre you looking for a Florida family vacation? I've got just the thing for you -- ideas for Florida vacation spots for families! You're bound to find at least some of the ideas intriguing (well, at least I hope so). :)

You might also think about a Florida family beach vacation. If you're beach-bound with kids in tow, you'll want to know the best spots that are both family-friendly, and also offer a wide range of things to see and do.

Florida Vacation Packages - What Do You Need to Know?

You know you're curious about them...but find out what you need to know before you sign up for one of the many Florida vacation packages -- choose the right one for you.

Just an FYI -- all vacation packages are not created equal, so discover what you need to know before signing on the dotted line. After all, you don't want to spend more than you need to, right?

The Florida Keys, Please?

The Florida Keys make for a wonderful vacation spot -- or more precisely, it's a vacation destination all its own. Did you know that the Keys are also known as the "American Caribbean"? They are like exotic tropical islands, but you don't need a passport to get to them. And as any resident will attest to, time seems to slow down when you're on "Keys time". (Now where did I put my Jimmy Buffet recordings...)

Do you like snorkeling, swimming, boating and more?  The Keys are your playground! Do you like diving? Then you'll want to go to Pennekamp for a world-class experience. Are you into stalking fish (a.k.a. fishing)? Then you'll want to check out Islamorada fishing for the big catch!

What about finding places to stay and attractions to see?  Here's plenty of information about Keys vacations and Key West to get you started. You'll probably find that there's more to the Keys than meets the eye (in a good way, of course).

Romantic Getaways and Ideas

Need some romance in your life?  I've got ideas for you and your "special someone" for some romantic Florida vacation spots all around the state. It doesn't matter if you're planning a getaway or a leisurely trip - you'll find new places to bring some romance into your vacation. It's alive and well here!

Florida OutdoorsIchetucknee Springs, Florida

The Florida outdoors is a wonderful place to be, because there is a ton of things to see, and fun things to do. And if you're into golfing as your outdoor sport, check out some of the golf resorts we have here in the Sunshine State - wherever you go, you'll find plenty of great ones. But golf isn't the only outdoor activity -- check out the below for more things to do.

  • State and National Parks - the Everglades is a must-see.  And some of our state parks are beaches!  There are 2 parks that are mostly underwater - how's that for interesting?  Oh, and don't forget our "wonder down under" -- Florida Caverns State Park! A recent addition I've made is Blue Spring State Park -- lots of info and pictures. If you love the outdoors, you'll love the parks we have here. And the photo to the right? It's of the Blue Hole at Ichetucknee Springs.

  • Cruises -- all kinds, from the mega-ships to intimate vessels await you!  Maybe sunset cruises in the Keys?

  • Want to walk on the wild side?  Camping is out of this world here...although there are definite "seasons" for the various camping locations. Before you go, know the seasons that are best for your camping trip!

Where to Stay While You're Here

Hey, have you considered where you'll stay here in Florida?  How about renting a timeshare and vacation in luxury! Other possibilites? How about Orlando vacation villas? Resorts, hotels, motels, B&Bs -- you'll find them all in these pages. Check out some of the resorts and hotels in Key West, Daytona Beach, Panama CIty Beach and Destin (just to name five...there are still more!)

Great Florida Vacations

Just so you know, I won't be covering Florida places to party hearty (except by making a general reference).  Well, I do include Key West, but that's a special exception.

I'll be focusing on the attractions, vacation spots like the Keys, as well as places of beauty and wonder around this great state of Florida (although any Florida vacation site isn't complete without Disney and Universal). Vacations to the Sunshine State come in many different flavors (so to speak).

It's the Florida you knew had to be here somewhere!  And there are plenty of wonderful places to explore, from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

I take trips around the state from time to time, visiting places both old and new (and taking new photos along the way).  I am continually amazed at what Florida has to offer. I hope you'll be just as delighted as you read these pages.

Ready? Come on with me and let's go exploring for some great Florida vacations. Enjoy, and see you on the inside!
