Butterfly World in Key West, Florida

The full name is actually Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, and it's home to between 50 and 60 difference species.

Walking With Butterflies

One of the neat things about Butterfly World is the Conservatory, where you can walk with these delightful "flowers of the sky" floating around you.  While you aren't supposed to touch them, it is marvelous watching so many of butterflies, in all shapes and colors.

The Conservatory is kept at a constant temperature of 85 degrees and humidity is around 80% for these delicate insects in their tropical setting.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center is where you can find out about all things butterfly.  First, you start out with a 15 minute film, then you can roam the center.  You'll see caterpillars here as well (they aren't allowed in the Conservatory).

Weddings in the Conservatory

I never would have thought of it, but weddings are popular at Butterfly World in Key West, Florida! 

Weddings take place atfter 5:00 PM, and are limited to 20 people.  Can you imagine the romance of all those butterflies floating in the air while the ceremony takes place?

Gallery and Gift Shop

Naturally, there is a gift shop where you can buy all kinds of mementos.  But there is also a gallery of (I can't think of any other way to put it) butterfly art.

An artist by the name of Sam Trophia is responsible for the glorious displays, which are either wall-mount or table-top. Although they are all real butterflies, they lived out their life span before being immortalized in the artwork.

Butterfly World in Key West, Florida - Location

The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory is located at 1316 Duval Street in Key West.  It's open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for children 4 to 12, with children under 4 years are free.  There is also a senior and military discount -- $8.50.
