Cayo Costa State Park Beaches

by Erik
(Ft. Myers, FL)

It's in a state park, but I think the Cayo Costa Beach is one of the best in Florida for being quiet or "undiscovered".

First of all, Cayo Costa is on an island. Second, there is no bridge to Cayo Costa. Get my drift? Secluded!

You can get to the island (and its beaches) if you have your own boat. But if you don't have your own boat, you can catch a ride on the ferry that goes back and forth between Cayo Costa and the mainland. It's not a long trip.

Anyway, once you're on the island, there are around 9 miles of beaches -- so I've heard, haven't had time yet to walk it all! Swimming is great, and you can snorkle, too. The waters are usually pretty calm.

If you like shelling, there is plenty of that on the beaches.

And if you get tired of the beach but you don't quite want to get back to the mainland yet, you can check out the nature trails, see some wildlife maybe.

Cayo Costa beach is really neat.
