Florida Vacation PackagesFlorida vacation packages abound, but do you know what to look for? Choose the right one and it's a trip of a lifetime. And if you select the wrong Florida vacation package? Maybe we shouldn't mention it...
Book AheadYes indeed, last minute reservations can be had, but booking ahead of time is best. Not only do you get the most choices, but you can better compare rates. It's true; sometimes even a day can make a huge difference in your per-night stay. Or, for example, a big convention or gathering (like "bike week" or a big NASCAR race in Daytona Beach) can send the rates sky-high. So you do want to check ahead of time or else you might find yourself paying double the normal rate (instead of half). That is, if you can even find a room! Location, Location
Most people don't realize how long the state of Florida is, so while visiting the Key West and then Pensacola isn't out of the question, you'd best have a lengthy vacation in which to do it (unless you are flying between the cities)! Your best bet -- stick to one general area of Florida for the best deals. Not to mention to be able to enjoy youself, and not spend all your time in a car or bus or airplane. For example, if you want to visit Key West, you may also want to visit the rest of the Florida Keys and the Everglades. Finding Florida Vacation PackagesNow that you know where you want to stay, how much will it cost? This is where a little homework comes into play. Not to mention getting the reading glasses to look at the fine print! First, don't automatically go for the cheapest rates. Why not? Because hidden in that price might be things like the taxes aren't included in the initial quote, or a stiff penalty if you don't cancel far in advance. Or sometimes if you cancel at all! No, you don't want to cancel your Florida vacation, but sometimes "life happens". Some vacation packages include a real breakfast, not just a muffin and a cup of coffee. Or kids eat free. You might want to consider those features, especially if you are on a tight budget. And also, location is a factor. You don't want that cheap rate be because it's in a not-so-savory part of town, or where you have to put lots of miles on the rental car to get anywhere (not to mention the time it takes going back and forth). And that beach vacation you've been wanting? Note that a "beachside hotel" and a "hotel on the beach" can be two entirely different things. For example, "beachside hotel" can mean anything from being located directly on the beach to having to cross a road to get to the beach. If you want to stay on the beach, verify the location on a map! When all is said and done (and compared), a package that has a higher rate might be the better overall deal. Or you could get lucky and strike gold, so to speak, with an ultra-cheap package. Just look for the fine print, first. Your Florida Vacation PackageNow that you know what to look for, it's time to take a peek at what's available. Keep in mind your budget, but check out any appealing package in your price range, and not just the lowest, to determine the best overall Florida vacation deal. (And of course, online is a great place to start your search even if you plan to use a local travel agency for your final booking.)
