Islamorada shopping can be a bit problematic. Why? Because there seems to be
a fair amount of duplication (i.e. a lot of clothing stores, fewer eclectic
treasures).
Still, there are bargains and delights to be found in
Islamorada. After all, shopping in the Florida Keys is a wonderful thing, any way you look at
it.
And admit it -- what's a Florida vacation without some shopping? You have to bring home some treasures from Islamorada Florida...even if you have to go on a hunt to find them! Really, it's not quite that difficult, especially if you like an artist's village type of experience.
There is one "department store" type of place in Islamorada for your shopping pleasure, but it's definitely not a chain store. Still, it has a pretty good selection, so you'll enjoy browsing.
Get Ready, Get Set -- Shop!
I'm more of a fan of eclectic than clothing, so for Islamorada shopping, the Rain Barrel tends to draw me in whenever I am in town. And although I haven't gone there yet, Island Silver and Spice sounds intiguing! (I'll have to stop by the next time I am in Islamorada.)
Still, if clothing is your fancy, there are plenty of places to shop - it's all a matter of your tastes!
Most businesses are along US1 (also known as the
Overseas Highway) and the best way to locate them is by mile markers (MM).
Therefore, I'll list the shopping in MM order, starting in the north and going
south. And instead of saying the store is on the left or right, I'll refer
to Bayside or Oceanside.
Anna Banana, MM 86.7 Oceanside -- With a name like Anna Banana,
how could you not stop in for a peek? Ladies, if you are searching for
tropical wear that is more than just shorts and a T-shirt, come here and
shop to your heart's content. Even more fun, there is some funky
costume jewelry to finish off your vacation look.
Rain Barrel Village of Artists and Craftspeople, MM 86.7 Bayside
-- Rain Barrel is a great place to browse and buy, browse more, buy
more...you get the idea. Stained glass art, silks, pottery, tropical
art and more fill this shopping village. A wonderful place to spend an
hour or three.
Expressions Swim N' Sun Wear, MM 86.7 Oceanside -- Caribbean
flavor prints adorn the clothing here. Swimsuits, hats, cover ups --
they are all here. Not to leave the gentlemen out, tropical shirts and
shorts are available for your purchasing pleasure.
Treasure Village, MM 86.7 Oceanside -- One stop shopping here at the
Treasure Village! All kinds of stores, from hand-carved candles to
tropical clothing to kids books and toys...and still more! There is
also a cafe in Treasure Village in case you grow faint with hunger (see, you
won't have to leave).
Latitude 25, MM 82.7 Bayside -- Latitude 25 offers a more upscale
approach to Keys clothing. Think name brands like Tommy Bahama and
Sportif. Mens and ladies clothing, along with a children's department
(much smaller selection through). Gifts and accessories too.
Hooked on Books, MM 82.6 Oceanside -- Did you bring some books
with you and have already finished them? Bring them in and do a trade
at Hooked on Books -- two books from you gets you one in return, Or
you can do it the old-fashioned way and actually buy them! Used books
and paperbacks galore here.
Garden of Eden, MM 82.3 Oceanside -- If you are wanting to bring
some of Paradise home with you but you have a brown thumb, how about silk
flowers? You'd swear some of them were real. Other small gift
items as well.
Island Silver and Spice, MM 82 Oceanside -- Call it a department
store I guess, because there's the same kind of selection here.
Clothing, jewelry, shoes, books and so on. Oh, don't forget to check
out the bargain corner -- no telling what treasures may be hiding there!
