Key West Things to Do

Key West things to do are quite varied, and there seems to be something for everyone.  Whether you like the beaches, the attractions, the tours or just plain people-watching, you'll have fun in Key West, Florida!

The Great Outdoors

One of the main reasons why you visit the Florida Keys is for the glorious climate and outdoor activities.  You certainly won't lack for any Key West things to do as far as outdoor activities go.

For example, you can take a tour to one of the nearby coral reefs and do some snorkeling or diving.

How about going to the beaches?  While the beaches aren't big, they are nice and the water is warm and clear -- just right for swimming!

If you're feeling really adventurous, try parasailing!

Nearby you also have Bahia Honda State Park, roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive.  If you like beautiful beaches, Bahia Honda has one of the prettiest in Florida.  You can also do some hiking, biking and camping in Bahia Honda.

Southward Ho!

Key West is the home of the southernmost point in the continental United States.  It's just 90 miles to Cuba, across the Florida Straits.  Although getting to Miami is easier (via the Overseas Highway), it's also farther away, at over 110 miles.

While you're in Key West, go ahead and visit the Southernmost Point and have your picture taken there!

Key West Things to Do

Remember, you're on Keys time, which is laid back.  There are plenty of things to do while you're here, but you don't need to rush around to try and see everything.  Relax!

Some of the more popular of the Key West things to do include :

• Walking Duval Street - shopping, people-watching, eating.
• Diving and Snorkeling - the reef is nearby
• Swimming - the waters are warm and clear and inviting.
• Bicycling (carefully) - you can rent bikes, but you have to watch out for the traffic!
• Camping - Bahia Honda, Long Key and Fort Jefferson are just an hour or so away.

Attractions in Key West

Some of the attractions popular in Key West include:

• The Southernmost Point; it's practically required that you take a photo of it!
• Mallory Square at sunset; it's an experience not to be missed.
• Butterfly World
• Sunset Cruises; there's nothing like being out on the water for one of the glorious Keys sunsets.
• Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society and Museum
• Glass Bottom Boat tours
• Harry S Truman Little White House
• Key West Shipwreck Historeum
• Hemmingway Home and Museum
• Conch Tour Train
• A Key Encounter
• Key West Aquarium; a nice attraction, even in such a small space.
• Old Town Trolley Tour; great for when your feet get tired or you just want to let someone else do the driving!
• Ghost Walk/Tour
• The Orchid Lady Tour
• Dry Tortugas National Park; you can only get there via boat or plane.
