Kissimmee Florida Vacation
Are you planning a Kissimmee, Florida vacation? If you are, you're probably wanting to find about attractions, hotels and things to do. And if you're not planning to visit Kissimmee? Keep on reading to find out why you should come on down for a visit.
When I was growing up in Orlando, Kissimmee was little more than a wide spot in the road, famous not for a certain mouse, but for rodeos. Well, this little town has blossomed into a world-class vacation spot. While the rodeo stadium still exists, other attractions now rule the town.
Naturally, there are hotels galore, shopping and all kinds of fun things out and about town, so let's begin the Kissimmee travel adventure by starting with the great outdoors.
The great Florida outdoors is generally overlooked in favor of the nearby attractions, but Kissimmee is full of outdoor activities! For example, there are many wonderful lakes nearby that are great for boating and fishing. Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho for short) is big enough to have its own lighthouse!
If you love hiking, biking, canoeing/kayaking and camping, you'll want to spend a day or two at Lake Kissimmee State Park. The Florida state parks are really wonderful, so it's well worth a visit.
You might also want to visit Allen David Broussard Catfish Creek Preserve State Park, which is a short jaunt away in Haines City. It's a little more rustic, but a lovely spot nonetheless
Fore! There are plenty of golfing opportunities here as well, so bring your clubs if golfing is your pleasure.
The first thing most people think of when they learn about this wonderful city is the Kissimmee attractions. Yes indeed, close by are Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World. But there are also places to visit like Gatorland (which holds a special place in my heart) and also dinner theaters like Arabian Nights!
Want to know more? Here are some of the Central Florida attractions you can easily get to from Kissimmee!
You can purchase many attraction tickets ahead of time (especially for Disney, Universal and Sea World), but you can also buy bundles before or after arriving. Bundles generally include admission to a variety of the smaller attractions, and can be a great deal if you've already "done" the Big Three attractions.
Check with your hotel; most will either sell the tickets or can put you in touch with a ticket vendor.
Kissimmee Florida Hotels
So, you're coming on down to visit, but you need a place to stay, right? Whatever you're wanting, you'll likely find here. From a super-strict budget all the way up to ultra-luxury, you'll find a multitude of Kissimmee, Florida hotels in all kinds of price ranges.
Where you decide to stay obviously depends on your budget, but beyond that, you'll need to identify exactly what you plan to do while in town. Kissimmee is kind of spread out, so part of your decision will be how close do you want to be to the attractions, versus what your budget is like.
The general rule of thumb is that the closer to "attraction central" you are, the higher a nightly rate you will pay. While that's not true 100% of the time, it's something to keep in the back of your mind.
Getting to Kissimmee is pretty easy, because if you're flying in, you'll land at Orlando International airport, which is just north and east of town.
Driving? You can get here by I-95 or the Florida turnpike, from either North or South Florida. If you're moseying on over from the Florida west coast, you'll probably want to come into the area via I-4.
Although Kissimmee was once best known for the Silver Spurs Rodeo, it's now known as a vacation destination in its own right. So come on down and see the heart of Florida, and enjoy your Kissimmee Florida vacation!
