Thanks for visiting the Everglades Shark Valley tour gallery! I've selected the best pictures from my recent trip for your viewing pleasure.
I'm only putting 2 or 3 pictures per page, so that people who connect through dial-up don't have to wait forever to see the pictures. But I have several pages of pictures to share with you.
Although no photos can capture the majesty of the Florida Everglades, their beauty so enchanted me that I had to at least try. And wouldn't you know, many of the birds and alligators acted as though they were posing for the camera! I appreciated it!
So come on along, and let's start the adventure!
Sunshine on My Shoulders
The alligators in the Florida Everglades often seem like waxworks -- very lifelike but they don't move very much!
Don't let them fool you, though -- they can move very fast when they want.
I saw this little gator (he is about 3.5 feet long) sunning himself on a rock. Fortunately I have a decent zoom on my camera, because I didn't want to get too close!
I See Lunch
The blue herons we saw were pretty calm, and posed for many a picture.
This heron appears to be contemplating lunch! You can't see it in the photo, but there is a body of water below the heron and he is waiting for the right fish to swim by.
Pretty in Pink
One of my favorite birds, in the Everglades or out, is the roseate spoonbill.
This picture doesn't capture their whole beauty; the delicate pink over-feathers and then the bright pink when they spread their wings.
That takes care of the roseate part -- but why spoonbills?
These birds have long thin beaks with a flattened indentation at the end. They use this indentation to sweep through the water, looking for good things to eat!
