St. Augustine Alligator Farm

St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological park is a nice morning or afternoon outing for young and old alike.  You'll see more than just gators, too.  The St. Augustine Alligator Farm has crocodiles, exotic reptiles, birds of all sorts and some other really cool animals.

There are shows at the Alligator farm, held daily.  When I was last there, I particularly enjoyed the Rainforest Review and the Alligator feeding shows.  The Alligator feeding show is held in the lagoon area, and you can bet all those gators know when to show up!  It's amazing to just watch them congregate, much less attack the food the way they do!

Rare Albino Alligators

Rumor has it that you will have good luck if you look upon an albino alligator.  You're in luck, seeing as they are present at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.Albino Alligator, St. Augustine Alligator Farm

I was amazed when I saw them -- very ghostly looking.

What Else at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm?

You just have to take the tour of the reptiles of the different continents.  If you thought alligators had some wicked teeth, you should take a look at the crocodiles!

And I never knew there were so many species of gators and crocs.  I could have spent a couple of hours in that section of the park, if it weren't for the shows that there going on in other parts.

I already mentioned two of the shows at the Alligator Farm, but there are several more:

  • Realm of the Alligator
  • Scales and Tails
  • Florida's Forest Friends

Oh, and one more thing you absolutely can't miss -- the Maximo exhibit. Maximo is a gigantic 15+ foot saltwater croc, and you haven't seen big until you've seen him!  And recently "Max" has become a proud father -- can't wait to see the sizes of some of those babies!

A Word of Caution

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park is a fun trip, suitable for all ages, but...

...I don't suggest visiting in the hot summer months.  The aroma of the gators can get to be a bit too much.  From late September through April is a better time to visit.
