Why Stay At Disney?

I think the biggest advantage to staying at a Walt Disney World resort is the experience. You're just not going to get the Disney "feel" staying at a chain hotel.

Another excellent reason is if you or your traveling companions love pool time! The Walt Disney World resorts have marvelous, large themed pools -- many with all kind sof water slides! Not to mention many of the resorts also have a white sand beach.

If you're flying in from out of town, the Disney Magical Express service is a wonderful benefit. At the airpoort, you get to bypass picking up your bags -- you go straight to the hotel and your bags are delivered to your room. For your return flight you can do your boarding pass and check in before you even leave the hotel. Now that is convenience!

Another advantage is the super-easy transportation between all the theme parks, as well as all the other Disney resort hotels. No traffic worries (Orlando traffic isn't anything to write home about)! 

Disney World Resort Reservations

Disney World resort reservations can be made directly through Disney World, or through a travel agent (online or in person).

Please know that Disney resorts are very popular, and there don't tend to be any last-minute rooms available -- and definitely not at a discount!  Book your Walt Disney World resort reservations as far in advance as you can!  Three to six months for most of the year -- nine to twelve months ahead if you want to spend Christmas at Disney.

Types of Walt Disney Resorts

The first thing you should know is there are five kinds of Walt Disney World resort hotels:

• Value
• Moderate
• Deluxe
• Disney Vacation Clubs
• Fort Wilderness Cabins and Camping

Value Resort Hotels

Disney Value resorts are great for you if you'll think a hotel room is just for sleeping - you've come to Disney to play! Or maybe you want to save your money to spend in the theme parks; if so, a Disney Value resort may be just what you are looking for.

The Disney Value resorts are :

• All Star Movie Resort
• All Star Music Resort
• All Star Sports Resort
• Pop Century Resort

A themed pool is present at the Disney value resorts, although there aren't any waterslides. There are no restaurants on the properties, but room service (in the form of pizza delivery) is available, as well as a food court. And you can always go to one of the other resorts that does have a restaurant when it's time for dinner.

Moderate Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

Walt Disney World moderate resort hotels are a bit quieter and have more of an ambiance. They tend to be newer and have a restaurant on the property.

The Moderate Disney World resort hotels are:

• Caribbean Beach Resort
• Coronado Springs Resort
• Port Orleans Resort French Quarter
• Port Orleans Resort Riverside

Of course the themed pool and waterslides are included. The moderate Walt Disney World resorts tend to be more "spiffy" than the value resorts, but of course they also cost more. A moderate resort room is not quite double the price of a value resort room.

Deluxe Disney Resorts

We're talking location and amenities when we talk about the deluxe Disney resort hotels! The Deluxe resorts include:

• Animal Kingdom Lodge
• Contemporary Resort
• Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
• Polynesian Resort
• Yacht Club

You will find multiple restaurants, pools, spas, valet parking, concierge service and (of course) pools.

Disney Vacation Club Villas

These Disney Vacation Club complexes are villas, not just regular rooms. You can rent anything from a studio to a three-bedroom unit. Here are the names of the Disney Vacation Club resort villas:

• Beach Club Villas
• Boardwalk Villas
• Old Key West Resort
Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa
• Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Fort Wilderness Cabins and Campgrounds

Great for people who either prefer to be in a more natural surrounding, or for anyone planning a Florida camping vacation:

• Fort Wilderness Campgrounds
• Wilderness Lodge Resort (these are actually individual cabins)

There is a dinner and show option in Fort Wilderness, lots of outdoors activities and babysitting service is available.

Get a Disney Resort Discount

Naturally, discounts are available for the Walt Disney World resort hotels. My advice is to check around on the internet for some great deals for a Disney resort discount. You may want to check two or three online resources, in order to get a good idea for a price range.

Florida residents -- there are also great Disney resort discounts for you too!  Not everyone in Florida lives near Orlando -- some of us have to drive many hours to get to Walt Disney World. However, you must reserve well in advance -- like 3 or 4 months -- in order to have a shot at the Florida resident discount.!

If you want a discount of any kind make your reservation as far in advance as you can to get the best discount.

As an aside, Walt Disney World resorts tend to fill up quickly, so if you wait too long, you may not get a reservation at the resort you really wanted. Or any reservation at all!
